Hey people, stamp your hands!Hey people, clap your feet!
A team that plays the Doswell Trolleys
Leaves the court dead meat!
While a baseball team in Richmond may remain a pipe dream, Doswell is proud to announce that the newest addition to the National Basketball Association “D”-League will be the Doswell Trolleys, scheduled to be unveiled in time for the 2012 NBA season.
“Yet another red-letter day for Doswell!” crowed town father, recently released resident funnyman and Trolley club President Louis Leher as he brandished an official souvenir “brochure and pamphlet”. “I’m tickled ‘turquoise and plaid’ to be president of Doswell’s first professional ball club, which according to coach Lefty Pudley promises lots of spills ‘n chills on the court!”
The Trolley was picked as the mascot as it is a symbol of Doswell progress, introducing quality, innovation and reliability to the young expanding enterprise. Scouting and recruiting is already under way, with Coach Pudley and President Leher scouring the schoolyards, YMCAs and middle school gyms for quality talent and other young boys ready to wear the proud turquoise and plaid.
“And ladies,” adds club president Leher, “practice those leaps and splits – we need cheerleaders!”
“And somebody to wash the uniforms.” He adds.
Coach Lefty Pudley was chosen as coach from an exclusive list of qualified applicants. A 1974 graduate of Fagley Preporatory Academy with a BA in General Information, Coach Pudley was assistant coach under Derwood Anson at the Barbizon School, where the “Flaming Hairdressers” rang up a respectable 4-14 record. In 1983 he became head coach of the Greensboro Lunchbuckets. Citing personality conflicts and a morals charge, coach dropped out of the b-ball scene for a while, only to return five-to-seven years later as head coach of the JR Smuckers High School “Fighting Preserves”, where they dropped a last-minute 94-47 heartbreaker to the Westlake HS Camels in the consolation game. As a result Coach Pudley was awarded the 1990 All-State Sympathy Certificate.
Other teams in the “D”-League on the schedule to play the Trolleys include the Kansas City Tryouts, Akron Scrubs, Racine Festive Cheeseballs, Greensboro Lunchbuckets and the Manila Envelopes, the Philippine farm team. The season kicks off July 3, 2012.
